Working hours

40 hours per week, including weekends, bank holidays and extended opening hours as required.

Who we're looking for

You’ll be responsible for leading both our Fenwicks concessions, overseeing daily operations and objectives, maximising sales, minimising costs and providing a ‘best in the business’ sales environment. Responsible for the effective management of seasonal stock, displays and general retail duties, you’ll be able to react to consumer demand and industry trends as and when needed.

You’ll be flexible in your approach to support the business at peak trading times as well as being proactive at planning for these key seasons. Providing an excellent shopping experience for every customer you’ll be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of all our products, providing expert advice on all aspects of foot health, measuring and fitting. You’ll be able to work remotely as well as holding responsibility for the management of the sales floor, understanding the importance of commercial awareness with the creative ability to drive new business and seek potential opportunities for growth.

The role requires a blend of management and leadership skills, including strong communication, adaptability, flexibility, with a clear focus on providing excellent customer service. Leading by example is key as well as having a good understanding of our business with a genuine passion to make Start-Rite the place to go for children’s shoes.

You’ll need to manage priorities on a daily basis and have the ability to ‘think on your feet’ as well as working as part of a team. You’ll also be keen to learn and develop your skill set as well as be able to support the Brand Training Manger remotely when needed.

What you'll be doing - the detail

• To take full responsibility and accountability in the day-to-day running of the Start-Rite Concessions at Brent Cross and Kingston
• Responsible for the day-to-day management of all staff across both concessions, including management of the rotas, covering sickness and annual leave, as well as planning resource requirements based on trading needs and peak times
• To be fully conversant and confident with opening and closing procedures including start and end of day procedures
• To provide excellent customer service, leading by example to make Start-Rite the go to place for children’s shoes
• Be fully conversant on foot health, measuring and fitting, providing correct advice to parents on their purchases and training your team to do the same
• Have an extensive knowledge of all products, features, and benefits
• To promote add on sales at every opportunity, achieving all agreed KPI’s and targets
• Brief the team on sales targets, new lines, company news and conduct appropriate handovers
• Deal with complaints in a professional manner
• Assisting and supporting those families with any special needs, making sure your teams are fully trained and developed in the same way
• Drive the team to achieve store and individual daily targets
• Process sales efficiently at till point, apps & end of day reporting
• Collect data capture and create personal record cards
• To participate in Brand training and daily briefs as and when required
• To participate & manage a two-week rota that will require weekend working and late-night trading
• Flexibility and adaptability to provide additional support during busy times and peak trading seasons
• To support the Product and Technical team with fitting knowledge as required
• To share fitting knowledge with the Customer Service team
• Carry out any reasonable requests by the Brand Training Manager or other managers to ensure the smooth running of the concession
• Assist with stockroom and stock audits as and when required
• To be polite and professional when representing the Company at external events
• To comply with all Health & Safety regulations as laid out by the Company and Fenwicks
• Maintain the highest standards of the agreed dress code
• Maximise sales opportunities using effective commercial displays, monitoring displays and being proactive in planning promotions using sales reports to react on “winners”
• To assist with seasonal changes, promotions, and events instore and locally
• To support the Brand Training Manager with the forecasting and selection of seasonal stock requirements to the business in excel format
• Support the Brand Training Manager and Merchandising team to monitor and maintain effective stock levels using cyber reports
• Check stock and report any discrepancies to the relevant customer service advisor
• To take all measures to achieve an accurate stock audit result as well as maintaining an orderly effective stockroom
• Assist the Brand Training Manager in highlighting slow sellers to the business
• Highlight slow sellers to the business
• To maintain awareness of market trends in the retail industry, what consumers are looking for in their purchases, asking leading questions and being aware of competitors’ activities and reporting these to the business
• Attend Product Open Days and Go to Market meetings at Head Office
• Have a proactive approach to seasonal store moves, commercial displays and seize opportunities to increase sales
• Monitor “best sellers” and provide reports to the Brand Training Manager and fellow colleagues • Lead your team in line with Start-Rite’s brand values and expectations
• Train and develop all new joiners on brand, staff induction, measuring and fitting, providing regular reviews on progress
• Proactive approach to recruiting, especially when additional resource is needed during peak

What you need

Experience in footwear retail would be a real bonus, especially at a supervisory level
Strong and effective communication skills with the ability to build rapport and develop relationships with all teams at Start-Rite
Leads by example, setting the direction and allowing people to grow and develop
A people person who listens, coaches and develops staff to be the best they can be
